Introduction

The integrated rural development of weaker sections in India (IRDWSI), a voluntary organization has been working in the backward districts of Orissa- Koraput and Malkangiri, The partners in development are the tribals, the dalits and the poor. The aim of the project is to accompany the poor on a long term basis to fulfill the programmes of capacity building, community organization, empowerment and sustainable development through a systematically designed process of human potential development, natural resources development and the development of people made resources.

Ideology

We believe involvement through an integrated programme will eventually bring overall change among the people for better quality of life and thus promote humanitarian development. The basic work of the organization is ‘to help people help themselves”. However, the work is based on people’s involvement in their own development through participation, decision making, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluating, sustain, manage and own the entire process of development.

Objectives of the Programme

Our objective to development is to directly involve the poor in the decision making. One of the important elements. Of this programme is to make people realize the need for a strategic planning. We strongly believe that the planning must emerge from the people, who are the direct actors and participants in the process of development. The project started its work among the poor based on people’s understanding, knowledge, wisdom and experiences and to accompany the people in their journey to development.

The Objectives of the Project are as Follows

  • To make people to discover their own village
  • To accompany the people in their journey towards development.
  • To imbibe the elements and values of critical consciousness.
  • To involve the people “ In recollecting the past” understanding the present” and focusing on the future”
  • To assess the life relating to human potentials, natural resources and people made resources.
  • Lastly, to involve the people in envisioning, enabling and empowering themselves through a systematic plan of action for a better future.

Conclusion

The impact and the achievements was possible because of the continuous support we receive from various state and central government departments and the resource agencies.
