COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Village Visits

Staff visited all the ten villages and met the contact persons, cadres, volunteers, Women Group and PO members to discuss with the people on the programmes planned in their villages along with them. In the last one year, the staff made more than 68 visits to different villages.

Organisation of Community Meetings

The aim of organising the community meeting is to bring the people together to discuss on the development ideology. There are no limitations for organising these types of meetings. The staff organised meetings 3 times in a village and in some cases R was organised more than 3 times. During the one year, 68 community meetings were organised in all the 10 villages. During the community meetings the programmes were discussed. Construction of Spring Protection Well in 4 villages, Drinking water well in 3. Land development programme in 9 villages, Vegetable cultivation in IO villages, Organise Health camp in village, Mal-nourished children special care, Communication training programme, Liquor issue, Functioning of literacy in the villages, People participation. Apart from the above subjects, the team discussed on the role of People's Organisations (PO) and Women Groups (WG), Village plan and peoples participation and their contribution in their village development work. Both PO and WG members along with all the Cadres participated in all these community meetings.

Organisation of PO Meetings

There was a plan from the People's Organisation from all the 10 villages that PO member meetings should be organised once in a month to discussed on the PO's performance. Nearly, 122 meetings were held in all the 10 villages. The main focus of these meetings were: - PO members role and responsibility, Reduction of liquor consumption and Literacy programme. Adult Literacy, village fund raising, registration of PO members and to work for their own community. In these meetings, 636 PO members (420 male + 216 female) participated.

Women Group Meetings

In all the 10 villages, women group meetings were organised. The main subjects discussed were - on the women problems in and outside the village and in their own family. Their participation in literacy programme, leadership and health related activities, equal wages, minimum wages, Self Help Groups (Micro Credit) and savings were also discussed. Micro Credit programme was initiated to generate income for the women and to support for the families through small business. 14 women groups from IO villages discussed and planned the programme for the year. All these groups have their savings _and fund in the bank. Nearly 292 women group members participated in the meetings and discussed on their future activities. The staff records the detail of savings and registers are maintained.

PO Members Training

From 5 villages, 27 members participated in the training for a period of 3 days. The training contents were : Members experiences in their own villages, Society Analysis -Social, Political, Cultural, Economic, Micro Macro Context, Role of PO members, Panchayat Raj system, Tribal Self Rule, Unity among the community , Care of community property, General discussion on Education, Health and Environmental strategies in the present context.

Women Group Members Training

From 5 villages, 42 women participated in the training. During the 3 -day training the staff covered the following subjects: Gender sensitivity, Equal lights, Women and health, Women and Environment, Women and politics, Present role of women in the village and family and Women Issues. The women groups are active and co-operate in all the. programmes in the villages.

Development Cadre Meeting and Training

From 10 villages 20 Male and 10 Female in total 30 people participated in the Development Cadres Meeting. 15 development cadres from 5 villages were trained for a period of 3 days. The role of Cadres in the community was discussed which are as follows: - Structural analysis of social, economy, culture and political aspects, Govt. health structure, Educational systems of both Govt. and NGOS, Development understanding, Tribal self Rule, Panchayat Raj and Tax systems.

Women Cadre Training

From 5 villages, 15 Women cadres were trained on different women's issues, identity, leadership, participation, decision making , health , nutrition, and education, savings, and women's role in the village and in the family, their role in politics and education .

Leadership Training

Twenty four Leaders ( 13 Male and 11 Female) from the 10 villages were trained by the project for a period of 3 days on different topics . Structural analysis on social, economic, political and cultural aspects were dealt-with. Panchayat Raj system, Tribal Self Rule, Tax system, present Educational system were part of the training.

Children Enrolment

From 10 villages 80 children (40 boys and 40 girls) were enrolled in the two formal residential schools (boys and girls) at Mudalipoda. Now 68 children (38 boys and 30 girls) are continuing in the school and rest of them dropped out.

Adult Literacy Programme

In 5 Villages, adult literacy programmes were organised. In each village 10 male and 10 female in total 20 people attended the programme. The Literacy volunteers were from the villages. The Staff observed that in 3 villages there was a positive result and 60% progress. The female attendance is higher than male.

Network Meeting

The Team selected 15 members (10 male + 5 female) from 10 villages for the network activities. Every month they meet and discuss on culture, Identity, health, Education and -Environment and utilisation of local resources (Human Potential, Natural Resources and People made Resources).

Fund Raising

The Staff educated the community on fund raising. In 9 villages, eighteen groups were formed and the people raised savings fund in the Bank. As of today, the groups raised an amount of Rs. 45,000/- and deposited in the local KPG Bank. Four male groups were formed in 4 villages and they raised only Rs.480/- in the Bank. Through other means in four villages, five groups were assisted with Micro Credit finance covering 26 Women.

Exposure Visit

Seventeen persons ( 6 male, 11 female ) from 4 villages were exposed to different villages in Semiliguda Block to understand the development programmes initiated by the people and the role of POs and WGs. The programme was for 5 days.

Communication Training

The Communication training was organised in one of the village. 10 persons were selected (5 male, 5 female) and undergone 10 days of training on how to identify the issues, select a theme, formulating to story and performance in the villages. After training musical instruments and a petromax light was provided for their field performance.
