COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE

Community Building/Staff House

In the villages, the organization meets regularly, and they felt the need for a place to sit and discuss their problems. with the peoples contribution, a low community building with the local available materials were constructed. As of 1986, 31 programmes were implemented in 23 villages, and reparations of the already constructed houses was taken care of by the villagers.

Training Centre

WIDA has undertaken 4 training centres for the 3 bloc development organizers in 1985 at their base village. These buildings are proposed by the village community and the staff. Regular training programmes are being organized.

Irrigation Well

During 1985, WIDE dug irrigation well Champathenda village. This well could irrigate nearly 10 acres of land during the off season. A long with well digging canals are being dug by the side of the land. The village people is by this motivated to do second cropping thus it is aimed to increase their income and enhance the standard of living of the village community. we continued in 1986 with yet five new irrigation dams. Totally, 450 acres belonging to 110 marginal and small farmers is benefited.

Pond/Canal

In seven villages pond programme and in 3 villages canal digging were initiated and completed in 1986. It is proposed that the pond would utilised for growing fish, bathing, cattle and irrigation. In every pond a well is being dug for water resource. It has been agreed with the villages that every year and if necessary the people themselves will result the pond.

Instillation of Wind Mills

For lifting water for irrigation, with the help of government, wind mills were installed in 5 villages in 1986 and nearly 30 small farmers with a landholding up to 20 acres was benefited. Second cropping is imitated, and the windmill also benefits as drinking water source.

Weighing Machines

Weighing machines were purchased and distributed in 8 villages. The village people have learnt and it has become a practice that whenever they take their products to the weekly market, they weigh the product so that they cannot be cheated by the middlemen of businessmen.

Road and Bridge Construction

In 1986, roadwork was undertaken and completed in five villages, four villages are proposed for construction of wooden bridges.

Housing Programme

During phase II one village was selected by the project along with the people from the target villages to undertake community housing programme benefiting all the families in the village. All the families either belong to marginal or small farmers and after several discussions, they decided the house design and their contribution and requested the project to assist them in constructing the houses, and houses was constructed for the 46 families in the village in 1987.

Reconstructing of Whole Village

During 1994 we selected one village called kind plunger for reconstruction of the whole village. Before construction of the house the field staff and the engineer had serried of meetings with the community on their request. after on year of planning we undertook rebuilding of 16 houses.

Bio-Gas

In 1989, a bio-gas programme in the villages to establish bio-gas plants. The project was planning to undertaken 378 units covering 17 village. Each plants cost 4000/- and the government contributed with 2850/- The rest was shared by the people and the project. In 1989. 50 bio-gas plants in two village were completed in collaboration with the government and NGO.

Sanitation and Drainage

Due to water stagnation in the village pistil, people were facing health problems and mosquito breed. The approached for drain to be constructed with 50% of their contribution in terms of labour and materials. The drain constructed with 50% of their contribution in terms of labour and materials.
